Bhubaneswar: Senior chartered accountant AK Sabat on Saturday contributed Rs 5 lakh to his alma mater Khallikote University in Berhampur under Mo College initiative of the state government.
The government will contribute double the donation amount of Sabat for a project in the university.
On his donation, the senior chartered accountant said after chief minister Naveen Patnaik announced the Mo College Abhiyan, he wanted to contribute as per his capability to the initiative.
Since he had studied in Khallikote College in Berhampur, which is now a university, for 4 years from 1967 to 1971, he wanted to do something for the institution through the government programme, Sabat said.
He further said as he had studied in Commerce stream in the college, his donation should be utilised towards developing a well-equipped library with study materials and computers at the Commerce Block.
After receiving the cheque from Sabat, chairman of Mo College Abhiyan Akash Dasnayak said the library project would be taken up with Rs 15 lakh including Rs 10 lakh of the government’s contribution.
