Paralakhemundi: Gajapati collector Anupam Saha giving lessons in Geography in a high school is being much appreciated by students and parents in the district.

Sources said the collector on Friday had gone to Mahendragiri Municipal High School in Paralakhemundi town and taught Geography to the Class IX students much to their delight.

Talking to mediapersons, the collector said the Mo School Abhiyan, launched by the chief minister on the Children’s Day last year, has been introduced in all schools in Gajapati district.

“However, under this programme, we have started another initiative ‘Teach Gajapati’ in which those who are interested in voluntary teaching can teach the students on the basis of their educational qualification. They can spare some time for teaching and take any chapter of the subject of their choice as required by the students,” Saha said.

“Under this programme, I took the class for the first time. What I observed that the mode of teaching by the teachers of this high school is very good. The task I gave to the students was excellently answered by them. I hope this is a very positive sign as the students have the potential to perform even much better,” he pointed out.

A first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, Mo School or My School is an initiative that aims to create a platform for people to connect, collaborate and contribute to revamping school education in Odisha. A robust and vibrant school education system holds the key to a brighter future for the state and its people. Odisha needs to groom its school children to be successful citizens that shape the emergence of a progressive and cosmopolitan state, which also is among the country’s most developed.

The objective of the programme is to provide a platform for the alumni and individuals, associations, social impact organisations, foundations, philanthropists, companies and others to contribute to the development of the school ecosystem in Odisha, leverage the experience, success and influence of the alumni and its vast worldwide network to impart best practices in school education, create an enabling environment to harness the vast human resources and intellectual capital of the state and its people, equip students with the physical and mental infrastructure required for multi-faceted development so that they can evolve into wholesome individuals empowered to pursue any vocation, profession or avocation that they are passionate about.

The government will provide operational and financial support to the programme.

The Mo School Executive Council will run the everyday affairs supported by a Governing Council and a Board of Advisors, both of which will comprise, among others, thought leaders, eminent educationists, social scientists, and notable people from the fields of art, architecture, design, advertising, communication, film-making, literature, science, technology, sports and public administration.
