Kolkata: One of the ‘big’ winners on Saturday was Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Despite facing the heat following several scams, imprisonment of ministers and leaders, and the Sandeshkhali episode — where there were complaints of sexual harassment against women and land grabbing – the ruling party in West Bengal is set to win at least two-thirds of the seats in the state.
Lashing out at the BJP, the West Bengal CM on Tuesday demanded Narendra Modi’s resignation as Prime Minister.
She pointed out that despite tall claims, BJP (242) is not close to majority mark of 272 on its own.
“I am happy that the Prime Minister did not get the majority figure. The prime minister has lost credibility. He should resign immediately because he had said that this time they (NDA) would cross 400 seats,” Mamata said at a press conference.
Mamata claimed that she had predicted BJP won’t even get 200 seats.
“The extra seats they are getting over 200 is thanks to Election Commission,” alleged Mamata.
“Even after causing so many atrocities, spending so much money, arrogance shown by Modi ji and Amit Shah, INDIA bloc has won and Modi has lost. They have even lost in Ayodhya,” the TMC supremo said.
Ayodhya falls under UP’s Faizabad parliamentary seat, where Samajwadi Party candidate Awadhesh Prasad is leading comfortably over BJP’s sitting MP Lallu Singh.
The CM’s nephew and TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who sat next to Mamata at the press briefing, is himself under ED and CBI scanner and has been questioned many times related to multiple scams.
But he made a point by winning the Diamon Harbour seat by a whopping margin of over 7 lakh votes (710,930 to be precise).
