Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday requested the Centre to continue restrictions on train and air travel to Odisha in view of the possibility of further spread of coronavirus.
Participating in a video conferencing with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said since June is the crucial month for Odisha due to the return of the migrant Odia workers from the COVID-prone states in large number and the onset of the monsoon, the Centre should continue the restrictions on the travel of the people on train and air as this would further escalate the spread of the coronavirus.
The Chief Minister also requested the Prime Minister to take necessary steps to bring back some stranded people of Odisha from the Gulf countries as most of them are engaged in low-paying jobs.
Apart from this, he requested to conduct the national level entrance examinations only after the state-level Plus II examinations are completed.
