Bhubaneswar: Odisha is most likely to receive more rain in the next 24 hours with conditions becoming favourable for the revival of the monsoon.
According to Dr Surendranath Pasupalak, a well-known Met expert, the state recorded a deficit rainfall in August due to the subdued monsoon. “The weather, however, is most likely to change in the next 24 hours with a low-pressure area expected to form over the Bay of Bengal on August 28,” he said.
Under the influence of the low pressure, there will be light to moderate rainfall in most parts of the state with isolated heavy rainfall at one or two places, which will continue till August 31, he added.
Pasupalak further said the state is likely to receive an average rainfall of 90-100 mm from August 26 to 31. However, this is not enough to compensate the overall deficit rate in August, he added.
“There is a possibility of the formation of a low-pressure area off the south coast of Odisha in the first week of September which will trigger more rainfall in the southern districts,” he said.
Talking about the prevailing condition of the monsoon in Odisha, Director General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Mrutyunjay Mohapatra had told the media on Tuesday that the monsoon in the state remained subdued as the condition was not favourable for the formation of low-pressure areas over the north-west Bay of Bengal due to the disturbance in the regional factors and erratic wind flow.
