Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a few spells of light rain/thundershower with one or two intense moderate spells (1-2 cm/hr) in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack till 2 pm on Tuesday.
It has also warned of temporary traffic congestion, poor visibility due to intense rain and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
On Monday, heavy rain lashed Bhubaneswar for around 3 hours in the afternoon, leading to waterlogging at several places, including arterial stretches and highways. Vehicles could be seen wading through water on the flyover and service lanes on NH16. Rainwater also gushed into apartments and houses in Laxmisagar, Bomikhal, Old Town, Nayapalli and Shastri Nagar areas.
Massive traffic jam was witnessed on Janpath, Rajpath, Bijut Marg, Cuttack-Puri highway, Jayadev Vihar, Nandankanan Road, Jagamara road and the stretch between Fire Station Square and Airport Square.
Bhubaneswar recorded 258mm rainfall by 8.30 pm with the weather agency terming it as one of the most intense spells of rain in the city this monsoon season.
Rain also played havoc in Cuttack and Puri, which saw flooding in several areas. In Cuttack, water entered some wards of SCB Medical College and Hospital and Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer. Commuters had to wade through knee-deep water on Keshapur-Gahmandia stretch, where box brain work is underway. The entire stretch of Rajabagicha was also under water.
