New Delhi: Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said that the next three months would be decisive in determining the coronavirus situation in the country.
India is bracing for the second wave of COVID-19 with the winter ahead.
“If we take adequate precaution and follow COVID-appropriate behaviour in the coming festival and winter season, we will be in a better position to fight corona,” he was quoted as saying by ANI.
Meanwhile, the health ministry, in a statement, said that latest recoveries have exceeded the fresh cases in the recent days. The last 24 hours saw 67,549 more patients recovering and being discharged.
The national recovery rate was 89.78 per cent on Saturday with around 70,16,046 people having been cured of the disease so far.
About 61 per cent of the recovered cases are from six states and UTs of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
The COVID-19 fatality rate also declined to 1.51 per cent.
Vardha stressed the need for states to increase testing, surveillance, contact tracing and early diagnosis to keep the fatality rate low.
On the other hand, the affected tally surged to 78,14,682 on Saturday with an overnight addition of 53,370 new infections. India also saw 650 new deaths, which took the toll stands to 1,17,956, the ministry added.
