Bhubaneswar: The ongoing active surveillance in the Odisha capital has revealed that the number of COVID-19 positive cases are more from non-slum areas.
Commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Prem Chandra Chaudhary informed at a press meet on Saturday that while 201 positive cases have been detected from slum areas, the number in non-slum areas is 657.
To contain the spread of the virus in slum areas of Bhubaneswar, BMC has formed a slum committee in each slum. Active contact tracing is being conducted successfully with active cooperation of committee members.
“The efforts of the slum committee have paid off as 41 positive cases have been detected from Mahisakhala slum. The slum has been declared as containment zone,” Chaudhary said, adding that four other slums in the city have been identified as containment zones.
He further informed that more than 80 per cent of those who have tested positive for coronavirus are asymptomatic.
