Bhopal: You have heard of ‘most wanted’ criminals with big rewards on their heads.

But a most wanted’ monkey?

Yes that’s true.

A monkey, with a bounty of Rs 21,000 on its head, was caught on Wednesday after terrorising people of Rajgarh town in Madhya Pradesh for a fortnight, during which it attacked 20 people, including 8 children.

A rescue team had to be summoned from Ujjain to catch the ferocious monkey.

The team, with the help of local officials and residents, located the monkey using a drone. They managed to tranquilise the monkey using darts and put it in a cage.

“The municipality did not have the means to catch that monkey. We reached out to the District Collector and with his help, called in a rescue team of the forest department from Ujjain. The municipality staff and local residents helped them, but it still took 4 hours to catch the monkey,” Rajgarh municipal corporation’s chairman Vinod Sahu said.

“We had offered a cash prize of Rs 21,000 for catching the monkey. We will give it to the animal rescue team now,” he disclosed.

The kind of menace the monkey had become in the area can be gauged from the fact that some people kept guard on their terraces with weapons including

According to officials, the monkey would perch on roof and window sills before suddenly pouncing on people. Many of those injured suffered deep gashes that required multiple stitches.
