Berhampur: A speeding pickup van hit the motorcycle and ran over it, killing a man, identified as Jayaram Nayak, his two daughters and grandson near Indhanpur under Gangapur police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Tuesday.
While Jayaram, a native of Munigadi village, died on the spot, his two daughters and grandson were rescued in critical condition and admitted to Aska sub-divisional hospital, where doctors declared the two women dead. The minor boy was shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here as his condition deteriorated.
The accident took place when the victims were returning to the village from Gangapur on the two-wheeler. The driver of the pickup van fled the spot soon after hitting the motorcycle.
Later, locals staged a road blockade by burning tyres and demanded compensation for the family of the deceased.
