Mumbai: A 27-year-old Mumbai-social media influencer, Anvi Kamdar, died after falling into a 300 feet deep gorge near Kumbhe waterfall at Mangaon in Raigad district of Maharashtra while she was apparently shooting a video.
The victim had gone to the spot on July 16 for a monsoon outing with seven of her friends, The Mint reported, quoting cops.
A resident of Mumbai’s Mulund area, the influencer had some 257,000 Instagram followers under the username theglocaljournal. According to the social media profile under her username, she created content on travel, luxury finds, cafés, itineraries, tips, and experiences. Her profile also mentioned that she was a chartered accountant by profession and a former employee of Deloitte.
Police said they were alerted by her friends. She was taken to the nearby Mangaon Taluka Government Hospital, where she died during treatment.
Her last reel was posted just two days back. In her last reel, she gave suggestions for plans for the long weekend on August 15.
The reel tragedies, a real effect
In the past few months, similar incidents have surfaced while social media influences became victims of accidents while attempting to shoot videos or short reels. Last month, a viral video was posted on social media platform X by @Mumbaikhabar9, which showed how a 23-year-old woman, Shweta Survase, from Maharashtra’s Chhatarapati Sambhaji Nagar died while trying to film reels near the Dutt Dham Temple hill on her way to Ellora caves.
Earlier, at a UP village a 21-year-old youth Shivam Kumar hung upside down from a flag post on the roof of a school as his friends recorded the stunt. He wanted to raise a flag on the pole while hanging upside down. But, the cemented pole failed to bear the weight and collapsed, leading to his death, according to an April 19 report of NDTV. The incident happened at Junior High School in Khairada village in Janpad Banda. The youth was attempting the stunt for making his reel viral on social media.
