Mumbai: A widow had to think on her feet to save herself from being molested by an intruder.
In a shocking incident, a masked man barged into the 53-year-old woman’s Borivali home in the early hours and misbehaved with her, threatening to ransack the house, reported The Times of India.
In her police complaint, the woman stated that she pretended to be an AIDS patient and threw up blood. That spooked the intruder and he fled.
According to the FIR, the complainant works at an electronics store, while her son and daughter are settled abroad.
She lives on the ground floor of a multi-storeyed building and the sliding windows in her living room have a faulty latch.
She was asleep on the night of August 14, and was jolted by some noise around 2 am, only to find a masked man in his mid-twenties standing in the living room.
The man, who got in through the sliding window, said he was a drug addict and threatened to come at the woman.
“I had to lie to save myself from being molested. I also threw up blood which terrified him. He fled from the main entrance and bolted it from outside,” the complainant informed.
She then called up a neighbour and asked her to unlatch the door.
Police officials who are probing the incident said the building does not have a watchman, and CCTVs in the vicinity didn’t capture any intruder.
“We are inquiring with the complainant and her neighbour for information on the accused,” an official said.
