Baripada: A murder convict serving life imprisonment at Rairangpur Sub Jail in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district escaped from the prison.
As per preliminary reports, the prisoner hails from Budamara village under the jurisdiction of Bisoi police station in the district. He was convicted in a murder case in 2015 and sentenced to life imprisonment.
The man reportedly managed to win the trust of the jail authorities during his stay in the prison. He was given the task of overseeing vegetable farming on the jail premises.
However, he reportedly escaped from the jail on Saturday afternoon and the incident came to light later.
Following the incident, police launched an investigation and efforts are on to trace and nab him.
