Balasore: Two motorcycle-borne youths allegedly attacked Loknath Rout of BJP with a billhook while he out for his regular morning walk, about 10 metres from Soro police station in Odisha’s Balasore district on Tuesday.
Rout sustained critical injuries in the attack and was rushed to Soro Community Health Centre. He later shifted to district headquarters hospital in Balasore as his condition deteriorated. He is BJP vice president of Soro town unit and former councillor of Soro Municipality.
Though the reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, it is being suspected to be the fallout of political rivalry. Rout’s wife is a councillor of Soro Municipality.
Police have started an investigation and efforts are on to trace and apprehend the attackers.
