Nadda Convoy Attack: MHA Calls 3 Bengal IPS Officers On Central Deputation

Kolkata: Two days after BJP president JP Nadda’s convoy was attacked in West Bengal, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has summoned three IPS officers of the state to serve in central deputation.

According to MHA sources, the trio — Bholanath Pandey (SP, Diamond Harbour), Rajeev Mishra (ADG, South Bengal), and Praveen Tripathi (DIG, Presidency Range) – was in charge of Nadda’s security.

The state government’s consent is usually taken before an all-India service officer is called to serve in central deputation. But in this case such protocol has not been followed, pointed out Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders.

Criticising the move as pressure tactics of the central government, the state government has said it will decide if the officers have to be relived from their current position in the state.

On Friday, the MHA had summoned West Bengal’s Director General of Police (DGP) and Chief Secretary over the prevailing law and order situation in the state following the attack on Nadda’s convoy.

Both were asked to be present before the Union ministry on December 14. But the state government wrote to the Centre that the two senior officers will not be visiting Delhi and that the attack on Nadda’s convoy was being probed.

The Chief Secretary further informed MHA on Friday that three cases had been filed and seven people had been arrested.

A number of BJP leaders were injured when stones were pelted at the cars in which Nadda and others were travelling to Diamond Harbour to address a rally.
