Dhenkanal: Passengers of a private bus en route to Bhubaneswar from Talcher had a close shave after it went up in flames at Kanteiolia near NH 55 in Odisha’s Dhenkanal on Friday.

According to sources, the bus had 40 passengers when it caught fire on the main road near the bypass. However, there were no casualties or injuries as the passengers immediately alighted from vehicle on being alerted by the driver. Soon after, the fire engulfed the entire vehicles, according to eye witnesses.

On being informed, Dhenkanal fire service personnel rushed to the spot and doused the flames. But the bus was completely damaged by then. Vehicular movement on the stretch was also disrupted due to the mishap.

While police have begun an investigation into the matter, it is being suspected that a short circuit or overheating of tyre could have caused the fire.
