New Delhi: The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) on Tuesday directed Odisha police for impartial probe into the death of minor tribal girl in Kotpad of Koraput district.
In an order, the commission directed DGP Abhay to conduct an independent and impartial inquiry and submit the action taken report in 15 days.
The girl was found hanging from a tree near Bagchuan village under Chitra panchayat on July 21. Her family members lodged an FIR at the local police alleging that she was raped and murdered. But the post mortem report stated that she committed suicide.
Alleging that the district administration was trying to suppress the case, BJP’s state vice-president Sukeshi Oram and ST Morcha national vice-president Kaliram Manjhi had sought the intervention of the NCST.
They demanded that the post-mortem report should be made public and an FIR registered. They also said cases should be filed against the district authorities and police under the SC and ST (POA) Act and POCSO Act.
