Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has approved Rs 2 crore for transformation of the memorial of Odisha’s eminent poet Gangadhar Meher in Bargarh district.
Secretary (5T) to chief minister VK Pandian had visited the birthplace of Meher at Barpali during his visit to the district in June. He interacted with the members of the Gangadhar Meher memorial committee regarding development of the place.
After he submitted a proposal on the transformation of the memorial, the chief minister approved the fund. The memorial will serve as a research centre of Odia literature. Besides the litterateurs, it will attract tourists from across the country.
The fund will be utilised for construction of a Kavi Bhavan, Smruti Bhavan and a park on the premises of the late poet’s birthplace.
