[Watch] Naveen Inaugurates 2 Major Irrigation Projects In Odisha’s Mayurbhanj

Baripada: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday inaugurated two major irrigation projects during a visit to Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. Both projects would help irrigate 27,000 hectares more and benefit 2.5 lakh farmers.

The CM inaugurated the multi-purpose irrigation projects over Subrnarekha river at Rasagovindpur that would irrigate an additional 17,000 hectare (ha) agriculture land in Mayurbhanj district. The project, which has come up at an estimated budget of Rs 685 crore would benefit 55,000 farmers of the district.

The project, which was proposed in June 1994, targets to irrigate total 1,14,200 ha in Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts. While 70,000 ha in Mayurbhanj would be supplied irrigation water, already 50,000 ha are irrigated. Naveen had launched the release of water from the project to 15,000 ha in July 2021.

He also inaugurated irrigation project over river Deo at Hatibari under Karanjia block. Proposed in 1992, the project would supply water to around 10,000 hectares in Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts. The project over 1280 square metre has been constructed with SCDA technology for the first time in the state at a cost of Rs 823 crore. Around 2 lakh population of 100 villages would benefit from the project.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said, “Mayurbhanj has made a mark in the country with election of Droupadi Murmu, who belongs to the district, as President of India.”

He further said his government was committed to the growth of farm sector and progress of the farmers in the state. “Mayurbhanj’s tribals are now known around the country for their rich culture and tradition,” he added.

He also spoke about Pandit Raghunath Murmu, new irrigation potential, KALIA, BSKY, women empowerment, food security and 5T school transformation.

Among others, minister Aswini Kumar Patra, MLAs Sudam Marndi and Raj Kishore Das, zilla parishad chairperson Bharati Hansda and secretary (5T) to chief minister VK Pandian were present.
