Berhampur: As part of the Odisha government’s plan to hand over land ownership deeds to slum-dwellers of 5 cities under its Jaga Mission, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will launch drone survey of the area on Thursday.
Since Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) is included as one of the beneficiaries, it has completed all arrangements at Aina Bandh Sahi under Ward X. Initially, land rights certificate (LRC) would be issued to the beneficiaries and then the survey work would be taken up, BeMC sources said.
As per the decision taken by the state Cabinet, the people of 938 slums under 5 municipalities would be allotted land rights. Around 8.58 lakh population of 1.9 lakh families living in these slums would benefit from the scheme.
Around 175 slums in Berhampur have been brought under the government plan. The BeMC has conducted campaign about the scheme under Jaga Mission in these slums. It has also formed residential welfare associations and taken up necessary welfare projects in the slums.
As per the direction of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the houses constructed on the banks of water bodies have been demolished. The people, having houses not violating the NGT norms, would get the land rights, the sources said.
