Bhubaneswar: A three-member team of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) left for Koraput district on Sunday afternoon to probe into the alleged gang rape of a minor girl in Kunduli in October last year and her subsequent suicide on January 22.

The team which arrived at the state capital earlier in the day on a three-day visit will have an on-the-spot investigation in Kunduli where the alleged gang rape had taken place. Later, the team will visit Musaguda, the native village of the victim and interact with the family members.

The team, after its return from Koraput district on February 13, will have a meeting with the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police (DGP).

“The accused who has committed such heinous crime cannot escape no matter where he has gone underground. The Commission will try its best to bring the accused under the law of the land and ensure his stringent punishment. Besides, the state government should ensure the arrest and appropriate action of the accused. The Commission would force the state government to take such steps,” team member Jogendra Paswan told media persons.

The Commission had decided to probe into the incident after hearing a writ petition filed by the Congress MLA of Koraput, Krushna Chandra Sagaria.
