Mumbai: The National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Rekha Sharma has called out to the makers of ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’ for projecting Indian Air Force in a bad light.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, the NCW chairperson pointed out that the real Gunjan Saxena has asserted that she never faced any discrimination in the Indian Air Force (IAF).
However, as the filmmakers have portrayed in the movie that Gunjan Saxena faced discrimination in the IAF, the NCW chief has asked the makers to apologise and discontinue the screening of the film.
“The real #GunjanSaxena must come out and clarify whether the gender discrimination shown in the movie is for real? Being from Army background I can never imagine defence officers behaving like goons. Officer or not, women are always get their due respect in forces,” she wrote.
Quoting a tweet with a screenshot of the real Gunjan Saxena’s assertion, Rekha posted, “If that is so, the filmmaker must apologise and discontinue the screening. Why show something which is portraying our own forces in a bad light especially when it’s not true.”
‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’ is based on the life of former Air Force pilot Gunjan Saxena. The pilot had played a crucial role in the Kargil War.
Directed by Sharan Sharma and bankrolled by Dharma Productions, the film starring Janhvi Kapoor in the lead role was released on Netflix on August 12.
