Thiruvananthapuram: Several girls were allegedly asked to remove their innerwear before being allowed to appear for the NEET at an exam centre on Sunday, according to an IANS report.
The alleged incident took place at the exam centre in Marthoma Institute of Information Technology, Ayur, about 60 km from Thiruvananthapuram. A parent, whose daughter allegedly went through the ordeal, has lodged a police complaint.
“We dropped her around 12 noon at the exam centre and later we were asked to give her a shawl by the exam officials. It was only after she came out after the exam did we realise what had happened. It seems there was a metal object in her innerwear, which was detected during screening. She and many other students were asked to remove their innerwear and only then they were allowed to take the exam. The college where the exam took place said they had no role as an external agency was overseeing the conduct of the exam,” the IANS report quoted the parent as saying.
As per the complaint, the girl was asked to remove her inner-wear while going through the metal detector. Several girls were subjected to the humiliation, the complaint alleged.
According to media reports, some girls removed the metal hooks on their inner-wear to be allowed inside the exam centre.
The frisking and biometric checking were done by an external agency, according to the reports.
The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducted the exam, is yet to respond to the complaint.
Police have started a probe.
