Bhubaneswar: Odisha is among 16 states and UTs, which recorded a higher passing percentage than the national average in the national eligibility-cum-entrance test-undergraduate (NEET-UG), the results of which were declared on Wednesday night.
While Priya Somadutta Nayak, a student of SAI International School, Bhubaneswar, has emerged as the Odisha topper, securing an all India rank (AIR) of 39 and 99.997 percentile, 26,279 students from the state qualified in the entrance test for admission to MBBS/BDS courses at the undergraduate level, which comes to around 61 per cent.
A total of 43,080 students appeared for the test conducted on July 17.
The states that scored better than Odisha are Nagaland, where 82% of aspirants who appeared in the exam were declared qualified, followed by Delhi (75%), Chandigarh (72.6%), Rajasthan (70%), Haryana (68.6%), Punjab (67.6%) and Andhra Pradesh (61.7%), the Hindustan Times reported quoting National Testing Agency (NTA) data.
Karnataka (59%), West Bengal (58.7%), Telangana (59.2%) and Uttarakhand (57.6%) also performed above the national average of 56.27%.
A total of 9.93 lakh (9,93,069) candidates qualified in the NEET UG 2022 exam this year, and among 429160 were male candidates, 563902 female candidates and 7 transgenders. These students will compete for nearly 88,000 MBBS seats across medical colleges in the country, which means 11.2 candidates will vie for each MBBS seat.
