Patna: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested Rakesh Ranjan alias Rocky, the alleged kingpin of the Bihar NEET-UG case from Patna.
The central agency recovered several key documents after conducting searches at different locations connected to the accused in Patna and Kolkata, officials said.
A local court granted 10-day custody of Rocky to the CBI for interrogation.
Rocky is the ninth person to be arrested in Bihar in the NEET-UG paper leak case. Several others have been taken into custody in other states like Gujarat and Uttarakhand.
Rocky, the nephew of another prime accused Sanjeev Mukhia, used to run a hotel in Ranchi. After masterminding the question paper leak, Rocky hired several MBBS students from Patna and Ranchi as solvers.
The question paper and solved answers were sent it to one Chintu, who circulated those to the exam candidates.
Two days ago, CBI nabbed two people, including a NEET-UG aspirant, from Patna.
CBI was entrusted with the investigation following nationwide protests by students over alleged irregularities in the medical entrance exam.
CBI has registered six FIRs in the case so far, one of which involves paper leaks in Bihar, while the other FIRs in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra are related to cases of impersonation and cheating during the exam.
