Ranchi: A day after arresting four students from AIIMS Patna, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took into custody a first-year MBBS student of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here on Friday in the NEET-UG paper leak case.
CBI officials believe Surbhi Kumari is part of the ‘solver module’ and was present with the other four in Hazaribagh on the morning of May 5, the NEET-UG examination day, to solve the paper stolen by Pankaj Kumar.
The CBI had approached RIMS, an autonomous institute under Jharkhand government, earlier this week for questioning.
“The CBI team contacted the hospital management on Wednesday saying they wanted to question her in connection with the NEET paper leak. The management extended full cooperation to the team. On Thursday too, they grilled her and said she would be questioned further,” PTI quoted RIMS PRO Rajiv Ranjan as saying.
Surbhi was first interrogated by CBI on July 17 and kept under police custody in Hostel No. 3 of the institute on Wednesday night.
On Thursday, she was called to the CBI office for further interrogation.
After a marathon session, CBI finally arrested her, confirmed Ranjan.
The students’ mobile phone, laptops, other electronic gadgets and documents have been seized by CBI.
