Bhubaneswar: Unitary examinations will be conducted for Class I to Class VIII students in all government-run schools across Odisha from this year.
Under the new rule, students of all the schools will answer the same question papers in the half-yearly and annual examinations, informed sources in the School and Mass Education Department.
Notably, the half-yearly examination will be held in November and question papers for the same have already been prepared. While the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has prepared the question papers and TBP and M has taken the responsibility of printing them.
Over 46 lakh students from Class I to Class VIII of government and government-aided schools of Odisha will appear for the examination. For these eight classes, 3.60 lakh question papers of 59 subjects have been prepared.
The District Project Coordinators are required to collect the question papers from Bhubaneswar and send them to all schools under their jurisdiction.
The examinations schedule, however, is yet to be decided.
Earlier, question papers for these examinations were prepared at the district level. Since there was no uniformity in the question paper pattern, some students had to answer tougher questions than the others.
With an aim to provide a level playing field to all students, the department took a decision to maintain uniformity in question papers, the sources added.
