New Delhi: Tata Projects Limited on Wednesday earned the right to construct a new Parliament building. Their bid was Rs 861.90 crore.
“The Tata Projects Limited has won the contract to build a new Parliament building,” an official said. He added that Larsen & Toubro Ltd lost out in the race for the prestigious project as they had submitted a bid of Rs 865 crore.
According to the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), the new Parliament building will come up close to the existing one — at plot number 118 of the Parliament House Estate — under the Central Vista redevelopment project.
It will be built in the shape of a triangle and is expected to be completed in 21 months.
The existing Parliament building – which the government had earlier said was showing signs of “distress and over-use”, will be used for other purposes after it undergoes repair and renovation.
