Cuttack: A newborn baby girl went missing from SCB Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Cuttack city on Monday evening with the parents accusing the hospital staff of child theft.
As per reports, Tapan Kumar Jena of a village under Chandanpur police limits in Puri district had admitted his wife Tilottama Biswal in the hospital after she complained of labour pain on Thursday. She gave birth to twin girls.
As one of the babies developed jaundice, she was admitted in the ICU of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department in the hospital while the second girl was with her mother in the ward.
In the afternoon, when Tapan went to check with the girl and furnished the pass to the security, he was told that the child had been returned to the parents. Following this, Tofan lodged a complaint with hospital authorities alleging involvement of their staff in stealing her daughter. He has also filed a complaint in SCB Medical police outpost.
The SCB Hospital has started investigation into the complaint and were scanning the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the ward and the ICU. The police are also investigating separately.
Meanwhile, Cuttack district president of Congress Mana Choudhury has said it is an unfortunate and sensitive incident. He has requested SCB Hospital to trace the missing baby and take stern action against whoever was responsible for it.
