This was stated by Baripada sub-collector Iswar Chandra Naik after Bhanj Sena, a local outfit, blocked National Highway 49 in Bangiriposi and Kadambehda for four hours on Friday demanding steps to prevent the frequent road mishaps that have claimed several lives recently.
Naik said Mayurbhanj collector Ashish Thakare has asked the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to complete the road repair works soon.
Clarifying on the road project, Naik said the NHAI has obtained clearance certificate from the Forest department and also deposited fees for the purpose. The repair and widening of the ghat road from Maa Dwarsuni temple to the base of the road will begin on February 8.
On the steps to prevent accidents, the sub-collector said two ambulances would be stationed at both ends of the road to carry the victims. One ambulance would be deployed at the starting point of the ghat road towards Bangiriposi and another one on the road towards Bisoi Chowk.
Besides, a team comprising Mayurbhanj RTO and police will also start checking vehicles flouting traffic rules including overloading and drunken driving along the road. In case of death in road mishap, compensation would be paid to the deceased’s family, he added.
