Mangaluru: Students of NIT Karnataka (Surathkal) have developed an electronic bike to facilitate campus patrolling.
NITK security personnel can travel around 120 km per day in the campus courtesy this bike. Considering that it’s a huge 295-acre campus, the innovative bike will be a big boost for the institute.
According to NITK Assistant Professor Dr Pruthviraj U, the bike has been made using a lithium-ion battery mounted on solar panels and gets fully charged within 3-4 hours.
It’s part of the institution’s continuous efforts to build a ‘Carbon Neutral NITK’.
The guards themselves had a ride on this bike, and were delighted to leave no carbon traces behind while patrolling through the NITK campus, said Pruthviraj.
