Bhubaneswar: Visitors to Nandankanan Zoo will not be able to take a walk through the aviary from Tuesday. The decision was taken as a precautionary measure after H5N1 avian influenza virus was found in the bird samples sent from Odisha University of Agriculture Technology (OUAT) to Bhopal for tests.
The walk will remain out of bounds until further orders.
There are 77 bird species in the zoo. People can see seven species in the walk through the aviary.
According to government officials, the virus originated in the Poultry Breeding and Research Farm, College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, OUAT.
