Berhampur: Vehicular movements on Berhampur-Gosaninuagaon main road came to a standstill as irked locals staged a road blockade by burning tyres on Tuesday night over repeated and unscheduled power cuts.

Alleging frequent power cuts in the locality during the day and at night, the protestors came out of their houses and resorted to road blockade following load shedding around 11 pm. They also detained two employees of Tata Power Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) and continued the protest till this morning, the sources said.

Local police along with TPSODL officials tried hard to pacify the agitators, but in vain as they demanded a written assurance from the company. “This has been continuing for the last 15 days. They cut power during the day on a daily basis. But, now they have started doing it during night too,” said an agitator.

The agitator later relented and called off the protest after assurance from Tata Power, the sources added.
