Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has barred movement of heavy vehicles for 10 hours to prevent traffic congestion during Dussehra celebration in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
The Commissionerate Police, in a notification on Sunday, said no goods carrier (truck or trailer having six or more wheels) will be allowed to ply on National Highways (NHs) and State Highways (SHs) in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack from 4 pm to 2 am till October 25 for the convenience and safety of common people during Dussehra.
“No heavy vehicle will be allowed to ply on the NHs and SHs from Pitapalli and Uttara Squares towards Bhubaneswar and from Manguli and Kandarpur Squares towards Cuttack during the period to avoid traffic congestion,” stated the notice.
It further said the traffic restrictions have been imposed as heavy vehicles would cause congestion during the rush hours of the festival. The curbs aim at facilitating smooth movement of light vehicles used by the visitors to different community puja pandals in the twin cities, it added.
The Commissionerate Police has also warned that violation of the restrictions will invite penalty of Rs 500. The amount may be increased to Rs 1,000 as per the offence, it added.
