New Delhi: Public gatherings will not be allowed in Uttar Pradesh till June 30, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Sunday.

The ban will include political rallies and social functions to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

“Chief Minister Yogi Adityanathji has given strict instructions to the officers that no crowd of any kind can gather till June 30. This decision has been taken with the intention of keeping the coronavirus under control,” Mrityunjay Kumar, the media advisor to the Chief Minister, tweeted.

The decision came a day after the Centre allowed shops to reopen. States have, however, been given authority to modify the instructions if deemed fit.

These orders are not applicable in containment zones and hotspots. State capital Lucknow will see no relaxation in lockdown rules.

Similarly, Delhi and Assam have decided not to allow shops to reopen without assessing the situation.

Uttar Pradesh currently has more than 1,600 coronavirus cases with 25 deaths.
