New Delhi: The nomination process for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections for 102 parliamentary constituencies in 17 States and 4 Union Territories began on Wednesday with an official notification for April 19 polling.
The Election Commission issued the notification on behalf of the President, citing March 27 as the last date for filing of nomination. For Bihar, March 28 has, however, been designated as the final day for filing nomination because of upcoming festival time.
The nomination papers in Bihar will be scrutinised on March 30, whereas in other states it will be done on March 28. Likewise, candidates can withdraw their nomination by April 2 in Bihar but for other states, the last date is March 20.
Of 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar, four will go to polls in first phase.
The other states and UTs, which will vote in the first phase, are Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Assam, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalay, Manipur, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhatisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshwadeep, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.
Odisha will go to polls in the fourth phase of the election.
