New Delhi: US Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has criticised his Republican rival Donald Trump for calling India “filthy” during their last presidential debate.
“President Trump called India ‘filthy’. It’s not how you talk about friends and it’s not how you solve global challenges like climate change,” Biden tweeted on Sunday.
Tagging Democrat Vice President nominee Kamala Harris, he added, “@KamalaHarris and I deeply value our partnership and will put respect back at the center of our foreign policy.”
In the last televised presidential debate on Friday, Trump, who is seeking a second-term, justifying his decision to pull out of the Paris accord had brought up “filthy air” in India.
“Look at India. It’s filthy. The air is filthy,” Trump had said.
The remark came ahead of the visit by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defence Secretary Mark Esper to New Delhi, reported NDTV.
The US will choose a President on November 3.
