Bhubaneswar: Eminent Odia economist Prof Ajit Mishra has been appointed as the director of the Institute of Economic Growth (IEG), New Delhi.
Prior to joining the Institute, Mishra had taught at the University of Bath, UK; University of Dundee, UK; Scottish Graduate Programme, University of Edinburgh, UK; Delhi School of Economics, Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research and Ashoka University.
After completing his PhD from Delhi School of Economics in 1994, Mishra has been actively engaged in research and lecturing in economic development, public economics, and economic theory over the past 25 years .
Mishra is credited with making profound contributions in the field of development economics with key studies on corruption and governance, incentives and public provisions, inequality, and vulnerability and poverty. Besides, he has published several papers in international refereed journals.
He has published two books, Economics of Corruption and Markets and Governance and Institutions in the Process of Economic Development. He is the associate editor of the Journal of Economic Behaviour and Organization, Elsevier and has been a guest editor of various journals.
Apart from this, Mishra has been part of research seminars and given public lectures in more than 50 departments. He has been an academic visitor in several leading universities, including Boston University, Cornell University, Louisiana State University, Loyola (USA), Monash University (Australia), University of Bergen, Christian Michelsen Institute (Norway), Hebrew University (Israel), WIDER (Finland), and Stellenbosch University (South Africa). He has been a consultant to the UNDP and World Bank and is also a member of various policy research centres.
