Bhubaneswar: Noted Oncologist Dr Sanjay Kumar Panda breathed his last at a private hospital in Chennai on Tuesday. He was 49.
According to sources, he suffered a heart attack and died while visiting Dr Rela Institute & Medical Centre in Chennai for a routine check-up. He had developed some health complications after recovering from COVID-19 recently.
He is survived is by his wife Dr Lipsa Panda and son.
His mortals remain were brought to Odisha on Wednesday, the sources added.
Panda was an Associate Professor in the Department of Head and Neck Oncology at Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer in Cuttack.
He had joined the cancer hospital after completing his MBBS and postgraduation in otolaryngology-head & neck surgery – from SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack in 1995 and MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur respectively. He has undergone special training in microvascular surgery and laser surgery.
Apart from regular head and neck procedures, Panda is credited as a pioneer in advanced procedures like lasers, microvascular procedures and voice prostheses.
He was the elder son of renowned doctor couple Dr Krupasindhu Panda and Dr Annapurna Das. His younger brother Chinmaya Panda is a noted entrepreneur and runs an IT company.
