New Delhi: Facebook and Instagram have now removed Rahul Gandhi’s post revealing identity of the family of a minor gangrape victim from Delhi.

Twitter had taken a similar step, even as National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) demanded action against the Congress leader.

“We have taken action to remove the content as it was in violation of our policies,” a Facebook spokesperson said on Friday.

Facebook had written to Gandhi earlier this week, urging him to remove the post, after NCPCR asked the social media platform to take appropriate action against the Wayanad MP’s Instagram profile over violation of provisions of Juvenile Justice Act 2015, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012 and the Indian Penal Code.

Gandhi had caused a flutter by sharing a photograph of his meeting with the parents of nine-year-old girl on social media. He had also written that he was with them on the path to justice and will not back down “even an inch.”

Twitter had locked accounts of Gandhi and some other Congress leaders who tweeted the controversial post. Later, Gandhi took to Instagram to state that he was guilty if fighting for justice for a rape and murder victim is a crime.

Twitter restored Gandhi’s account on August 14 after he submitted a consent letter from the victim’s family. The microblogging site, however, has withheld the tweets containing the controversial images.
