Patna: Lok Sabha MP Pappu Yadav is the latest to receive death threat from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

The threat comes days after the former Congress leader issued a warning to disband the dreaded gang within 24 hours.

Pappu, who won in the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Bihar’s Purnia as an Independent candidate, filed a complaint with Purnia police and wrote to the Bihar Police DGP.

He escalated his complaint by writing to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and demanded additional personal security, saying that he has no faith in Bihar police.

In his letter to Shah written in Hindi, which was shared by IANS on its X handle, Pappu stated: “Today, as the Lawrence Bishnoi gang continues to perpetrate one incident after another across the country, I, being a political figure, have voiced my opposition to these acts. In response to my protest, the leader of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has issued a death threat to me on my mobile, a copy of which I am attaching here for easy reference. Despite receiving such a severe life-threatening warning, both the Bihar Home Ministry and the Central Home Ministry appear inactive concerning my security. It seems that they will only become active to express condolences in the Lok Sabha and the Vidhan Sabha after my murder.”

Pappu, whose real name is Rajesh Ranjan, further said that after being elected as a Bihar Legislative Assembly member and six times as Lok Sabha member, he and his family members have faced multiple attacks. He claimed that various caste-based criminals, including Maoist organisations from Nepal, have attempted to kill him several times.

He pointed out that the Union Home ministry provided him with a Y+ security cover in 2015 after receiving Maoist threat, but it was reduced in 2019.

Pappu requested that his security be upgraded from Y category to Z category. He also urged Shah to ensure strict arrangements for additional security, including police escorts, at all event venues across Bihar.

Days after the murder of NCP leader and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, Pappu spoke against Bishnoi gang in a post on social media platform X.

“Is this a country or an army of cowards? A criminal sits in jail, issuing challenges, killing people, and everyone is merely a spectator. First, it was Moosewala, then the leader of the Karni Sena, and now he’s had an industrialist-politician killed. If the law permits, I will eliminate the entire network of a petty criminal like Lawrence Bishnoi within 24 hours.”

A video, purportedly of a conversation between a member of Bishnoi gang and Pappu’s personal assistant, has been circulating on social media. In the video, the alleged member of Bishnoi gang warns Pappu of consequences if he continues to speak against Lawrence.
