Nabarangpur: Close on the heels of a protest walk by students in Mayurbhanj district, more than 50 inmates of another tribal school in Nabarangpur covered 12 km by foot to meet the district collector and apprise him of the problems plaguing the school.
“We are deprived of accessing quality education owing to shortage of Science and Geography teachers in the school. Despite repeated requests, no step has been initiated by the school authorities to resolve our genuine grievances,” said one of the students.
They also alleged that rainwater enter the classrooms during heavy showers.
On August 27, a similar incident was reported from Mayurbhanj where hundreds of students of Patapur Girls’ High School decided to walk 15 km from the hostel to meet the collector and take up issues, including misbehaviour by their teachers, with him. However, they were stopped midway. The collector later visited the school and discussed the problems with the girls. Following an inquiry, the headmaster and a teacher of the school were suspended for alleged dereliction of duty.
