Bhubaneswar: More than 100 volunteers from four NSS units of different schools participated in the National Service Scheme (NSS) orientation programme organised at Birla Global University, Gothapatna here.
NSS Coordinator of the university, Dr Suvendu Pratihari and Registrar, Prof BK Das spoke on the occasion and shared their experiences with the students.
Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof PP Mathur, emphasised on the objective and significance of the orientation programme and cited his experience as an NSS volunteer as a student in the 1970s at Banaras Hindu University.
State NSS Officer-cum-Deputy Secretary, Higher Education Department, Dr Ramesh Chandra Behera, who attended as chief guest, spoke about how NSS helps students to develop social and humanitarian skills, which is an essential element in every aspect of life. He emphasised the concept of being empathetic to others, which is the actionable part of showing sympathy.
State NSS Training Officer, NSS ETI, OUAT, Bhubaneswar, Nirada Barana Khuntia, took a session about NSS structure, roles and responsibilities of volunteers, and motivated them to be proactive in understanding and addressing different social issues, which can help them in building their personality and a better India as well.
Youth Officer, NSS Regional Directorate, Bhubaneswar, NC Deori, spoke how youth can be a change agent of the society. Programme Officer, Ashna Siddique and members of the NSS committee Dr Siddharth Misra, Prof. Lopamudra Nayak and Prof Suresh Gole were also present.
