Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi hoisted the national flag and took salute during the state-level Independence Day celebration at Mahatma Gandhi Marg in Odisha capital on Thursday.

As many as 58 contingents took part in the parade.

“Odia Asmita will reach the zenith. As promised, we have opened all the 4 gates of Puri Srimandir. We will also roll out Subhadra Scheme from September 17. Steps will be taken to fill up 1.5 lakh vacant posts,” the CM said while delivering his maiden I-Day speech.

Emphasising on his government’s commitment to uplift farmers and ensure comprehensive development of women, Majhi said that he work tirelessly for development of Odisha, without making lofty promises but by focussing on realistic and achievable goals.

“Steps will be taken to implement PESA Act in tribal-dominated districts to empower local communities and strengthen Panchayati Raj system through village-level decision making,” he said.

The CM mentioned that the state has integrated Ayushman Bharat scheme with Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojan to ensure no eligible individual is deprived of quality healthcare service. He highlighted the ongoing infrastructure projects – roadways, railways, industrial corridors, and power grids, essential for the state’s progress.

He reminisced the supreme sacrifice and contribution of Gopabandhu Das, Madhusudan Das, Nabakrushna Choudhury, Shaheed Laxman Nayak, Veer Surendra Sai, Chakra Bisoi, Rama Devi, Malati Choudhury, Harekrushna Mahtab, Biju Pattnaik, and Parbati Giri. He also recalled the ‘Paika Rebellion’ and paid tributes to Buxi Jagabandhu, Jai Rajguru and other freedom fighters of Odisha, besides the braveheart soldiers who laid their lives while fighting for the country.

He mentioned the transformation of Emperor Ashoka from a conqueror to a proponent of peace and the legacy of rulers like Samrat Karavela and Kapilendra Dev.

The CM also spoke about contribution Maharaja Sriram Chandra. Bhanja Deo, Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati and  ‘the grand old man’ of Odisha Madhusudan Das in the formation of Odisha as a separate state. Creation of Odisha was not only a milestone for the state but also a guiding example for formation of linguistic states across India, he added.

Majhi further highlighted India’s rapid advancement under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “India’s economy is growing rapidly and will reach $ 5 trillion soon. India will emerge at ‘Vishwa Guru’ by 2047,” he said.
