Odisha Among Top Performing States In Achieving Sustainable Development Goals

New Delhi: Odisha has made great strides in Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in 2019 and has been placed among the top three performing state on various parameters in a Niti Aayog report released on Monday.

It has jumped from the 23rd to the 15th position in the performance category. The other big performers are Uttar Pradesh and Sikkim.

The top performers as per the composite SDG index are:

1. Kerala 70 (score)

2. Himachal Pradesh  69

3. Andhra Pradesh 67

3. Telangana

3. Tamil Nadu

The SDG India Index, which has been developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), United Nations and Global Green Growth Institute, was launched by NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Dr Rajiv Kumar.

India’s composite score also improved from 57 in 2018 to 60 in 2019. The maximum gains were made in Goals 6 (clean water and sanitation), 9 (industry, innovation, and infrastructure) and 7 (affordable and clean energy).

This is the second report released by Niti Aayog documenting the progress made by the Indian states in achieving the SDG targets set for 2030.

What are the targets:

2.Achieving a hunger-free world

3. Ensuring healthy life

4.Achieving quality education

5.Gender Equality

6. Water and sanitation for all

7. Access to modern energy

8. Sustained economic growth and gainful employment

9. Resilient infrastructure

10.Reducing inequality

11. Making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable

12. Ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns

13. Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

14. Conserving and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development

15. Reversing land degradation and halting biodiversity loss

16. Promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development

17. Strengthening the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
