Bhubaneswar: The Odisha police would launch anti-Maoist operations with its Andhra Pradesh counterpart, said Director General of Police (DGP) RP Sharma on Tuesday.
Talking to mediapersons here after returning from Visakhapatnam, where he had a meeting with Andhra Pradesh DGP, Sharma said the meeting laid much emphasis on coordination between the two states during operations against Left-wing extremists.
“On the basis of the decision taken at the meeting, the operations would be carried out,” he added.
Before leaving for Visakhapatnam on Monday, the DGP had told the media that the Odisha police would intensify operations against the Maoists. “We will come down hard on the Maoists in coordination with the neighbouring Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and Telengana police. To make our mission successful, efforts are on to further strengthen the intelligence network in the Maoist-prone Koraput, Malkangiri, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Rayagada districts,” Sharma had said.

Referring to the death of seven Maoists in the recent encounters in Balangir and Kandhamal districts, the DGP had said the operations were successful as the State Police had received accurate intelligence report about the location and movement of ultras in these areas.
