Odisha Assembly Approves Hefty Salary Hike For MLAs, Ministers



Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly on Tuesday approved a substantial hike in the salaries of MLAs, Ministers and the Speaker as also pension for former legislators.

The Assembly passed the revised remuneration bill, tabled by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling, before the House was adjourned sine marking the end of the winter session.

With the passage of the new bill, the salary and pension for both sitting and former MLAs have been increased to Rs 90,000.

As per the measure, the Speaker’s monthly salary goes up to Rs 98,000 from the earlier Rs 40,500, while the sitting allowance increases to Rs 2,000 from Rs 800.

The car allowance for the Speaker goes up to Rs 89,000 from Rs 17,000, and the sumptuary allowance increases to Rs 1.81 lakh from Rs 40,000 per month, official sources said.

r will also receive Rs 2,000 per day as accommodation allowance, up from Rs 1,000, until a government quarter is allotted.

As per the provisions, MLAs will now receive a substantially enhanced remuneration package. The revision includes:

Earlier, MLAs in the state were getting a basic salary of Rs 35,000 and Rs 65,000 in allowances, excluding travel and session-related perks. Ministers—both Cabinet and MoS—drew monthly salaries of Rs 40,000 and Rs 38,000, respectively.
