Bhubaneswar: Odisha has become the seventh BJP-ruled state, after Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat, to exempt ‘The Sabarmati Report’, based on the Godhra train burning incident, from entertainment tax.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling made the announcement in the state Assembly on Thursday.
The film starring Vikrant Massey has earned over Rs 20 crore in last 12 days.
Directed by Dheeraj Sarna and produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, Amul V Mohan and Anshul Mohan, the film also features Raashii Khanna and Ridhi Dogra.
‘The Sabarmati Report’ is based on the burning of S-6 coach of Sabarmati Express near Godhra station of Gujarat on February 27, 2002, in which 59 Hindu devotees returning from Ayodhya were charred to death. The incident triggered riots in Gujarat that year.
