Cuttack: With the matric exams for Class X students cancelled in Odisha due to the alarming rise in the COVID-19 cases, the Board Of Secondary Education (BSE) has begun the process for alternative evaluation.
This evaluation will be in line with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for the announcement of the results.
In a letter to the headmasters of government higher secondary schools, the BSE has asked them to provide the details of the Class X students in the format prepared by the board regarding their name, roll numbers and the marks secured by them in the half-yearly and annual Class IX examinations as well as the four Class X practice tests.
The headmasters have been asked to submit the details at the office of the respective district education officers (DEOs) or the nearest examination centre by Monday afternoon.
In a related development, the Odisha Secondary School Teachers Association (OSSTA) has protested against the BSE decision. OSSTA General Secretary Prakash Chandra Mohanty said if the BSE had decided to adopt the CBSE’s alternative evaluation method, the government high school teachers should have been given more time.
Referring to the alternative evaluation, Mohanty pointed out that there is no practice tests for Class IX and students of Odisha State Open School. Then how will the BSE award marks to them, he asked.
However, a senior BSE official said that a decision in this regard will be taken soon.
