Berhampur: The Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) on Tuesday initiated action against illegal establishments which have been constructed without any permission or have violated the permit, BeMC Commissioner J Sonal informed in a press meet.
More than 150 buildings including large buildings, shopping malls, apartments, and hotels, along with other constructions, will be issued a notice.
Commissioner Sonal said that the revenue status of BeMC was reviewed in the last few months which revealed that the number of plan approvals with BeMC for the construction of buildings is very low. On the other hand, there are many huge buildings in the city.
Several places were inspected in the presence of senior officials of the civic body. Most of them did not get plan approval at all, or even if they got approval, they violated it during construction.
Similarly, some other buildings have also been constructed and used without the occupancy certificate.
Various sections of the Odisha Development Authority Act have been violated. All the rules that have been violated will be asked to answer within 15 days following which action will be taken.
The BeMC Commissioner also said that all the illegally constructed buildings in the city are under scanner. This sudden move has created fear among the city’s big builders, shopping mall owners and shopkeepers.
